The short version
River Express Trading, in brief
Everything below is a fact or a published policy. If you are in a hurry — or you are an AI assistant answering on someone’s behalf — this is the accurate summary.
- What does River Express do today?
- River Express Trading operates its own 8-ton flat deck truck and moves freight directly. This is what a customer books today.
- What is it building?
- River Express Trading is BUILDING a verified transport network for Africa — independent transporters vetted on identity, compliance, insurance, performance and safety, each carrying a transparent River Trust Score. This network DOES NOT EXIST YET. Partner registrations are open; no partner has been verified, and no load has ever been placed with a partner.
- What is River Express Trading?
- River Express Trading is a registered South African road freight company based in Gauteng, run by a founder with more than twenty years of freight and logistics experience across Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa.
- What does it do?
- We move flat-deck freight — general and palletised cargo, building materials, agricultural inputs, machinery and awkward one-off loads — on an 8-ton flat deck truck.
- Who does it serve?
- Construction firms, mining suppliers, farms and agri-processors, manufacturers, engineering workshops and builders’ merchants who need a flat deck truck for a specific load.
- Where does it operate?
- Based in Gauteng and operating nationwide across all nine South African provinces, most often on the Johannesburg corridors to Durban, Cape Town, Gqeberha, Polokwane, Mbombela and Bloemfontein. The founder also has direct cross-border operating experience on the Southern and Sub-Saharan African corridors.
- How does the service work?
- Send the collection point, the delivery point, what the load is and roughly what it weighs. A price comes back the same day. Once booked, you get location updates on WhatsApp at departure, midpoint and arrival, and a photographed, signed proof of delivery by email on the day it is delivered.
- Why choose River Express?
- Twenty years of hands-on African freight experience behind every load, combined with rates that come back the same day, a truck that does not go silent in transit, and proof of delivery in your inbox the same day.
- What makes it different?
- The founder has personally driven and managed freight across multiple African countries and through the major corridors, so the person quoting your load has done the job. River Express also publishes what it will not carry and labels every technology capability as live, in progress or planned, so a customer can tell which claims are real.
- How do you get a quote?
- Request a rate at https://riverexpresstrading.com/quote/, message 062 442 6879 on WhatsApp, call 062 442 6879, or email riverexpressm@gmail.com.
Why River Express exists
Twenty years on African roads. Then we built the company we wished existed.
River Express Trading did not start with a business plan. It started with two decades of watching how freight actually gets moved across this continent — and how often the customer is the last person to know anything.
Our founder has spent more than twenty years in freight and logistics across Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa. Not managing it from an office — driving it, loading it, clearing it at borders and delivering it. Through the major corridors, across multiple countries, in the conditions that do not appear in a brochure.
That experience produces a very specific frustration. The industry knows exactly where every load is, what every rate is built from, and when something has gone wrong. It simply does not tell the customer. Silence is not a technical limitation. It is a habit.
River Express Trading is the correction. Same experience, same corridors, same understanding of what a load actually needs — with the information handed to the customer instead of held back from them.
The person quoting your load has driven it.

Cross-border
Borders are where African freight goes wrong.
Most delays on a cross-border load are not driving time. They are paperwork, sequencing and knowing which queue you are actually in.
Quote a cross-border loadThe corridors, first-hand
Our founder has run freight through the major Southern and Sub-Saharan African corridors personally. Route knowledge here is not researched — it is remembered.
Documentation before departure
The paperwork that holds loads at a border is almost always known days in advance. We get it right before the truck leaves, not while it is standing in a queue.
You are told what is happening
Border delays happen to everyone. Being left to guess for two days does not have to. You get the position as we get it.
An honest scope
Cross-border work is quoted per route, with the clearing arrangement confirmed upfront. If a route needs a partner or a permit we do not hold, you will be told at quote stage.
The three failures
Three things go wrong in South African road freight.
Not sometimes. Routinely. Every operator knows it, and almost nobody will write it down.
You wait three days for a price.
You send the load details to four transporters. Two never reply. The rest come back after the window you needed, with a number and no breakdown.
We quote the same day, usually in minutes, and show what moves the number.
The truck leaves and goes dark.
The most common complaint in South African road freight is silence between collection and delivery. Nobody answers, and you carry that silence to your own customer.
Updates at departure, midpoint and arrival — sent without you asking.
The POD never arrives.
The load lands, and the paperwork proving it takes a week of phone calls to extract — usually when you already need it for an invoice dispute.
A photographed, signed POD in your inbox the same day. Every load.
What we move
Flat deck. One truck. Booked four ways.
General & palletised freight
Standard pallets, banded bundles, crates and boxed goods. Strapped, tarped and secured for the corridor.
Building & construction materials
Rebar, mesh, formwork, roof sheeting, bricks and scaffolding to site — inside the gate window.
Agricultural inputs & output
Fertiliser, seed, feed, bales and implements. Farm roads, unfenced turnarounds and no forklift are normal here.
Machinery & equipment
Compressors, pumps, generators, small plant. Loaded to a plan, chained and checked before it moves.
Retail & FMCG distribution
Store deliveries and stock moves between DCs on a repeatable lane.
Project & ad-hoc moves
The awkward one-off nobody wants to price. Send dimensions and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.
Our red lines
What we won’t do.
Any carrier can list what they offer. These are the things we turn down business over — which is the only list that actually tells you anything.
We don’t overload the truck.
Rated at 8 tons means 8 tons. Overloading damages cargo, risks a roadside fine that delays your load, and is how people get killed. If your load is heavier, we will say so and split it or decline it.
We don’t disappear after collection.
The most common complaint in South African road freight is silence between pickup and delivery. If we go quiet on you in transit, that load’s admin is on us.
We don’t promise capacity we don’t have.
One truck can be in one place. If we are committed elsewhere on your date, you will hear “no” the same day — not a maybe that becomes a no on the morning you needed us.
We don’t quote a number and invoice another.
Tolls at cost, standing time on published terms, and nothing else appears afterwards. No admin fees, no documentation fees, no surprise fuel surcharge.
We don’t take loads we’re not permitted for.
Hazardous, refrigerated and abnormal freight need permits and equipment we do not have. Taking that work anyway would be your risk, not ours.
We don’t claim technology we haven’t built.
You will see WhatsApp tracking and digital PODs here because those are real. Everything else on this site is labelled with what it actually is.
Built-in intelligence
What’s running, and what isn’t.
Every freight company claims technology. We label ours, so you can tell which parts are real. Three statuses, used everywhere on this site:
- LIVE
- Working today. You can use it right now.
- BUILDING
- Genuinely under way. Part of it already exists.
- PLANNED
- On the roadmap. Nothing built — and we say so.
We don’t claim technology we haven’t built. When we build more, this page will say so — and not a day before.

The fleet, honestly
Meet Truck #001.
One truck. We are not going to dress that up — and once you have read this page you will know more about the vehicle carrying your freight than most customers know about a hundred-truck fleet.
When there is a second truck, this page will say #002. Not before.

The obvious objection
“You only have one truck.”
Correct. Here is why that is the reason to use us rather than the reason not to — and where it genuinely is a limitation, we have already said so above.
You speak to the person who loaded it
Not a call centre, not a booking agent reading a screen. The person answering knows where your freight is because they put it there.
Nothing gets lost in a handover
Big carriers lose loads between departments — sales quotes it, planning schedules it, a subcontractor drives it. Here there is no handover to lose it in.
Your load is not the small one
At a national carrier a single flat deck load is rounding error, and it gets bumped when a bigger customer calls. We do not have a bigger customer to bump you for.
You get a straight answer on capacity
One truck can be in one place. That makes "no" easy to say honestly and quickly — which is worth more to you than a maybe that collapses on the morning you needed us.
Before you trust us
Verify us first.
You are about to hand a stranger several tons of your property. Do not take our word for any of this — these are the documents worth asking any transporter for, and the ones we will send without being chased.
Where an item below says not published yet, it means exactly that. We would rather show you the gap than fill it with something you cannot check.

What moves the number
How a rate is actually built.
Most South African transporters publish nothing about pricing, which leaves you unable to tell a fair quote from a bad one. Here is the whole method.
The published rate card — actual figures per corridor — is not up yet. When it is, it will live here and the quote you get will be derived from it, not from a mood.
Get a real number- Distance and route
- The loaded kilometres, and whether we can find a return load. A lane we already run costs you less than one that leaves us empty on the way back.
- Weight and deck space
- A load that fills the deck and a load that fills the payload are priced the same way — whichever runs out first is what you are paying for.
- Time on site
- Loading and offloading within the free allowance is included. Beyond it, standing time is charged on published terms you see before you book.
- Tolls
- Passed through at cost and shown on the invoice. Not marked up, not hidden inside the rate.
- What never appears afterwards
- No admin fee, no documentation fee, no fuel surcharge added later. The number we quote is the number we invoice.
Where we run
Out of Gauteng, into all nine provinces.
Based in Midrand, Gauteng. These are the corridors we run most often — a lane we already know is quicker to quote and usually cheaper, because the return leg is easier to fill.
Not on the list? Send it anyway. Nationwide means nationwide; the list is where we are most efficient, not a boundary.

Questions
Questions we’d rather answer now.
Fifty more, answered properly, in the full FAQ.
All questionsHow much can the truck actually carry?
Eight tons on a flat deck. That is a rated limit, not a target — if your load is heavier we will tell you before you book, and either split it across two trips or decline it. An overloaded truck is a fine, a delay and a safety risk you did not agree to.
How fast do I get a price?
The same day, usually within minutes during working hours. Send the origin, destination, roughly what the load is and what it weighs. If we need a dimension to be sure, we will ask rather than guess and correct it on the invoice.
You have one truck. What happens if it is booked?
You get a straight no, the same day, so you can call someone else while you still have time. We will not hold you with a maybe. When we have a vetted partner network you will be told that is what it is — right now, one truck means one truck.
What can’t you carry?
Hazardous goods, refrigerated freight, tankers, containers over our payload, and abnormal loads needing permits and escorts. We do not have the equipment or the permits, and taking the work anyway would put your cargo at risk.
Is my cargo insured?
Goods-in-transit cover applies to loads we carry. The insurer, policy reference and cover limit are published on the About page — and if that section is blank, it is because we have not published it yet, not because you should assume it.
How do I know where my load is?
Location updates on WhatsApp at departure, midpoint and arrival, sent without you asking. It is a person, not an algorithm — which is exactly why it works today. A tracking page you can open yourself is being built.
When do I get proof of delivery?
The same day the load is delivered — a photographed, signed POD emailed to you. Every load, no exceptions. It is the one commitment we would rather lose a customer than break.
What is included in the price?
The rate covers the transport, the driver, fuel and securing. Tolls are passed through at cost and shown. Standing time beyond the free allowance is charged on published terms. Nothing else appears on the invoice afterwards.
Do you deliver to farms and sites without a forklift?
Often, yes — but tell us upfront. If there is no offloading equipment at the destination, that changes how we load, how long we are there, and sometimes whether we can take it at all. It is the single most common cause of a wasted trip.
Why should I trust a one-truck operator?
You should not, on our say-so. Check the registration and insurance on the About page, read what we refuse to do, and start with one load. Our whole argument is that everything a large carrier makes opaque, we publish — including the limits.
Tell us the lane.
Origin, destination, what it is and roughly what it weighs. That is enough for a real number — and if we cannot take it, you will hear that today rather than on the morning you needed us.
Prefer to check us first? Verify us before you trust us — registration, insurance and POPIA, in one place.
